Activities
The following activities are the main goals of the project.
A: Preliminary processing and management actions
B: Compensation for use of plots of land
C: Tangible conservation actions of species and habitat
D: Monitoring of actions;
E: Goals achieved
F: Coordination of the activities related to project and project monitoring meetings.
Each activity is divided into secondary section.
A1 – Individuation of appropriate area, feasibility studies on reintroduction and habitat mapping in Sardinia and in Corsica.
A2 – Preliminary, Definitive and final design – Signature of the agreements between project leader and associated partners - Studies on territorial and environmental characterization supporting Sites of Community Importance (SCI) - Preliminary, Definitive and final design according to management plans direct to remove threats and habitat conservation
A3 – Genetic study of animal life in Corsica and Sardinia – One of the most important risks for the conservation of Red Deer is the consanguinity and the consequent loss of genetic variability.
A4 – Education of monitoring staff - education of staff involved in monitoring activities of new population of Cervus elaphus corsicanus in Sardinia and in Corsica.
B1 - Compensation for use of plots of land – Purchasing of plots of land are not expected. There is a compensation for land property owner.
C1 - Infrastructures and fences – it will be realized seven fences and seven turrets for capture and temporary detention
C2 – Capture, marking and radio collar wearing – Capture, marking and radio collar wearing and health checks
C3 – Creation of new population in Sardinia and in Corsica – creation of new population through translocation in Sardinia and in Corsica
C4 – Creation of ecological corridors - It will be realized grasslands to obtain feeding of Red Deer.
C5 – Creation of troughs and meadows – In order to distance Red Deers from cultivated lands it will be realized troughs and meadows.
C6 – Realization of reflectors, light signals, installation of Red deer repelling devices
C7 – Environmental improvement acts – Forestry improvement acts
D1 – Periodic population and habitat monitoring – reintroduced animals will be regularly controlled starting from the release date.
D2 – Periodic health checks – the reintroduced deers will be captured for periodic health checks.
D3 – Data collection and analysis – data are collected and transmitted via GSM at elaboration centers where are used through GIS system
D4 – Monitoring of actions C4-C5-C6-C7
D5 – Socio-economic impact analysis in project areas
E1 – Communication plan and publicity materials – the web site of the project is the principal mean of communication.
E2 – Diffusion of the project and creation of a web site – This web site is based on two concepts: Transparency and participation
E3 – Meetings with local community
E4 – Importance of Awareness to schools
E5 – International convention on reintroduction of endangered animals of community interest
E6 – Installation of panels and billboards in the project’s areas
E7 – Importance of the project in socio-economic-tourist view
E8-E9 – Networking with other similar Life+ projects
These actions will be realized according to the guidelines of the European Commission included in the document “life-nature: communicating with stakeholders and the general public - best practices examples for Natura 2000”.
