Five more animals successfully moved to Corsica

Five animals were moved to Corsica on March 15th. This activity is financed by the LIFE+ Project "One deer two islands".

The five animals were released on the Nature 2000 Site of Massif du Rotondu. The main aim of this activity is to strengthen the Cervus Elaphus Corsicanus species in the French region. The moved animals had previously successfully passed every health check in both islands (Sardinia and Corsica).

The journey started at 3 am, when the 5 selected animals left Costa Verde towards Alghero on vans. From there, the journey went on by helicopter.

It was possible to complete successfully this operation thanks to the Regional Natural Park of Corsica staff, as well as to the professionality of human resources who belong to: Ente Foreste della Sardegna (Sardinia Forests Agency), Medio Campidano County Hall, ISPRA, Office National des Forêts (Corsica Forests Agency) and Star Work Sky pilots.

Also other institutions put an important effort to ease the task: San Petru di Venacu City Hall, DDCSPP and DDTM de Haute-Corse, Istituto Zooprofilattico della Sardegna as well as healthcare agencies of both regions.

Least but not last the important assistance offered by the Solenzara military camp whose staff created a dedicated airway among the closed airspace interested by military tests.
